When Will the Son Saga Continue

main
  1. I never liked the Chosen One concept in the first place so I'd rather it be laid to rest.

I'm interested in Rey's origins but I hope they are straightforward and she's just a human who happens to be very talented in the Force and has a connection to the Skywalker lightsaber either through blood or Force strength, not divinity.

  2. But there lies a problem. Anakin haves science (MC's) and (allegedly) a divine birth backing him up as the greatest Force prodigy of all time yet Rey, assuming she's not of his bloodline, born in the matter of "the old fashioned way" will surpass him.

THAT'S NOT HOW THE CHOSEN ONE WORKS!

  3. She does not need to surpass him.

  4. Actually, she could surpass Anakin because Anakin never reached his full potential. Clearly Palpatine remained above Vader/Anakin, and Vader probably never equaled Mace or Yoda either.

Rey would have never been able to equal or surpass Anakin had he reached his full potential.

  5. I don't want any more "chosen one prophecies"
And I really don't want a "Rey is the real chosen one"
    or reincarnations
    or "chosen one every generation"
"chosen one back from the dead"
"chosen something something etc etc one"

Or any dull remakes reusing concepts like "death star" "death star 3.0 aka Starkiller" over and over again.

  6. I'd like to see a film set hundreds of years after the first 6 films, where Anakin and Palpatine come back and wage one last battle.
  7. 1-6 for me. It's one cohesive whole, and as time went on it was especially made with that in mind.

There is only one existing series in my opinion that rises to the occasion to be something worthy of extending the saga on film, and even then I wouldn't do it. Even Lucas' ideas for the ST sound interesting and yet I still wouldn't extend it beyond 6. But if I had to choose to extend the saga, my choice for the series to do would be the New Jedi Order book series. Yeah, yeah, some people don't like it, but for me it really took Star Wars and explored it to its final conclusion, as much as any non-film Star Wars media could. On film it could be incredible. However, since that series is a) likely unfilmable, and b) even if it was filmable, Disney would never do something like it, then I have to say NJO remains what it is -- a really worthwhile set of books with a vision. The only way it could be done is Game of Thrones style and that will never happen.

Having said all that, I come back to my 1-6 answer.

There's so much potential with television, video games, and books these days that I wish that instead of ditching the EU, they decided to expand upon it in even more interesting ways using those mediums to their fullest potential. Maybe Shadows of the Empire style. Instead, we get more films, which isn't the worst thing in the world, but in my mind Star Wars will always be 1-6.

Lucas once said you could look at the series and say that one half is 'the Father' and the other half is 'the Son.' I think it was made with all that in mind and it's perfect idea, made like a mirror. And that was a project that was completed -- that was the heart of the whole story. 1-6.

  8. Now, just to make a satisfying continuation of the NJO series.
  9. I'd like it to end at 9, I'm not sure what the potential story of 10-12 would be.

  10. Sorry to sound like a cynic, but right now I'm not sure how much potential we have for a story in 7, 8, & 9.

Please, Rian come up with something good and original!

And Disney, please let Rian do it!

  11. Episode VII set the table.

Episode VIII will prepare the meal.

And by Episode IX, we shall feast!

  12. I'd also like to add to my original post (since I can't edit it for some reason) that as long as Star Wars films keep a consistent high quality, I say keep em' coming.
  13. There's a reason for why I'm not interested to see any Marevl/DC movies and I fear that's what's going to happen for SW in just a few years. :(
  14. I hope none are redone and the saga continues forever with breaks. Give them time to come up with original stories instead of TFA.
  15. Yeah, the 1990s/2000s EU and movies model was always the best way to do Star Wars, IMHO. If you're not a huge nerd, if you're just looking for one good series of movies, Episodes I through VI are a complete story with a beginning and an end (which is pretty much the ur-example of a happy ending and a hell of a difficult act to follow). If you are a huge nerd and want to know what happens next and explore the universe in depth and all that, then you've got the novels and comics and video games of the EU, constantly expanding in all directions. (And it's, frankly, a much better way to keep expanding. Books are cheaper, they're easier, you're not constrained by the age of your actors or by their other engagements so you can keep setting stories whenever you want for as long as you want, and since they're not feature films you don't have the inherent pressure of Measuring Up To The Originals).
  16. Yep. Frankly I think they had a good thing going and so many people pressured Lucas to sell the company that he finally caved. Even then Disney didn't have to do more movies; they would have made a huge amount of money from everything else. But they went for the movies. I can't think of a more perfect example of valuing money over art, and doing too much of a good thing to mess up said good thing, than Disney making more Star Wars movies.
  17. It's the only power greater than the Force, the ♡ of $.
  18. I'd be fine with the Saga ending at IX. The idea of characters turning up in spinoffs is appealing, imo. I'd like to see the Kaminoans, Zam Wesell, Watto, Boba Fett and various other characters again, even if they only have cameos.

I'm excited about R1, but I hope some of the stand alone films will explore the eras before Episodes I-VI. Even a Darth Plagueis film would be interesting, imo. There would be tons of opportunities to see familiar and less familiar aliens and characters in a DP film.

  19. Wow, that's a lot of options. I'm surprised to see so many people say that it should've ended with the original saga...not that I don't necessarily agree, but I think VIII has some promise so I think it should end at 9 or 10.

Movies forever is going to get a bit old at some point, I think (especially without JW music). But I don't mind having the Skywalker Saga end with us getting some other spin-offs later on down the line.

  20. I think that we really need to see through Episodes 8 and 9 to see what they're planning for the future of Star Wars. This is the first trilogy AFTER the original 6 movies, so it will be a clear indicator of what themes and plots they're going to use to keep the movies going.

It's likely that the way the movies will keep going is that the Force goes out of balance and each time people have to work together to restore it.

But as of now, I consider the original six movies to be the complete story.

  21. I would sure like a Star Wars: Legacy trilogy.

  22. I know this does not have any basis in actual quality, but I don't know if I'd be able to forgive Disney/Lucasfilm if they ended it at 10, and not at 9 or 12. Respect the trilogy!
  23. End at 9. Respect FL's vision. Trilogy of trilogies. When he said 12 films, he didn't say 4 trilogies. And how many times can the Republic, Jedi, and Skywalkers screw up?

    Spinoffs OK.

  24. 1-6, but with more movies. I mean the so called anthologies. There are so many possibilities to tell what happened between the episodes...
